Duty Station: Project Support Unit (PSU), Birendranagar, Surkhet (to be defined Cluster-Level duty station)


Recruitment: National, Preference to candidates from or based in Surkhet and project working area in Karnali and Sudurpaschiim provinces, no relocation or living allowances provided


Accountable to: Chief Technical Adviser/Chief Administrative and Finance Officer (CAFO)/Cluster TA Adviser


Reporting to: Store and Fleet Manager (SFM)/CAFO/Accounts Monitoring Officer (AMO) (for Cluster base vehicle)

 

Background

The Local Adaptation to Climate Change (LACC) Project supports land use planning and management, integrated water and forest resources management, environmental conservation, climate changeadaptation, and disaster risk reduction in Sudurpashchim and Karnali provinces.

 

LACC Project is searching for several drivers, who play an important role in ensuring safe and timely transportation. They also support administrative and logistical functions at the PSU and cluster office and contribute to overall operational efficiency of the project. Driver is a long-term position responsible for maintaining the vehicle always in good condition and following the Finnish vehicle rules and regulations with care, while obtaining excellent driving skills. Drivers also ensure day-to-day filling of logbook and systematic checking and repairing of the vehicle before starting confidently to drive.

 

Academic Qualification: Minimum Secondary level education (SEE) passed

 

Languages: Good speaking and writing skills in Nepali and English, to be able to ensure effective vehicle    management (knowledge of filling up logbook and DSA claims)

 

Experience and Skills:

·       Minimum five years’ experience in light vehicle driving, preferably including experience in the donor-funded projects

·       Excellent remote road location knowledge in Karnali and Sudurpaschim Provinces

·       Proven experience in off-road conditions (in 4WD driving)

·       Good knowledge of logistics support

·       Working experience with bilateral projects, (I)NGOs or international organizations is an added advantage

·       Good IT skills is an added advantage

·       Having higher academic qualifications is an added advantage

·       Knowledge of use of smart phones and its applications is an added advantage

 

Key responsibilities:

·       Fully responsible of the assigned Project vehicle.

·       Punctual in time and her/his duty.

·       Arrange fuel, lubricants, distilled water etc in time for the vehicle.

·       Do WALTER check before and after each trip: WALTER (W-water, oil and fuel, A-first Aid kit, L-logbook and manuals, T-temperature/heat, E-electric item, battery, light and fuses, R-rope & rubber-tyres)

·       Responsible for all tools, equipment, and spare parts of the vehicle that is assigned to him/her.

·       Check regularly all the parts of the vehicle before starting to drive the vehicle.

·       Closely and timely follow up of the problems of the vehicle and timely management of minor repair and maintenance of the vehicle.

·       Keep the assigned vehicle in neat, clean, safe, and good condition at all times.

·       Correctly complete and update the mileage logbook of vehicle movement, fuel receipt, and arrange signature from the vehicle user.

·       Observe safety traffic rules and undertake all driving assignments.

·       Report with logbook and vehicle order form for private trips and out of destination trips. Prior approval is needed in this case.

·       Respect and obey the order of Senior Officers and maintain good relationship with all the Project Staff.

·       Assist in official administrative and logistic support during the leisure time.

·       When making goods and documents deliveries to the recipient, check the condition of the goods delivered with the recipient and return the duly completed and signed documents to the admin/logistician.

·       Follow the rules of Finnish vehicle guidelines and respect Basic Operating Guidelines (BOGs) at all the time.

·       Responsible for reporting to SFM/Supervisor/CAFO/CTA for any kind of misuse of Project vehicles and any kinds of accidents, damages, events etc.

·       Fill up “Personal Responsibility Form” of other passengers as per pre-approval of SFM/CAFO/CTA. 

·       Any other tasks assigned by the Supervisor and Management to achieve goals and objectives of the Project and relevant to his/her competency.


Special Instructions:

·       Strictly prohibited to drink alcohol or use any narcotic substances. Any violation will result in immediate suspension of the contract. 

·       The driver must not, under any circumstances, use the mobile phone while driving.

·       Before setting off, inform all passengers that their seatbelts must be fastened, both in the front and back seats of the vehicle.

Additionally, name the other certificates so that the file names include your last name and first name and information on which document the attachment is.
